Every world is new. Every miner has a name. Every note is a promise.

A New Arrival

How to Play

Move and act

  • WASD or arrow keys to walk. Or click the ground.
  • E or Space to enter a door, talk to a person, or strike a deposit. Hold it to keep mining.
  • Mouse wheel or + - to zoom.
  • F eat bread. I Pack ยท C Character ยท L Land ยท J Journal ยท T Town ยท Q Quests ยท M Owners map.

Fight

  • Click to attack at the mouse pointer (or hold X). Click again fast for a combo. The last hit of a combo hits hardest.
  • Hold the click to charge a heavy blow. It breaks through and knocks enemies back.
  • Shift or right-click to roll. A roll at the last moment is a perfect dodge: time slows and your next hit is critical.
  • Guns need cartridges. R reloads. Quick bar: 1 bandage ยท 2 tonic ยท 3 dynamite ยท 4 torch ยท 5 food.
  • If your health reaches zero you wake at the inn. The doctor takes a quarter of your notes.

Stay alive

  • Mining and work use energy. Sleep at the Inn.
  • Hunger goes down all day. Eat bread or stew.
  • If energy reaches zero you collapse and pay a doctor.

Land and law

  • Ore belongs to the owner of the plot. Stake Crown land at the Land Office.
  • Buy land from its owner, or lease mining rights for 3 days.
  • Claim jumping (mining land that is not yours) can get you fined.
  • Owners pay land tax each day. Three unpaid days and the Crown takes the plot.

Work and trade

  • Sell ore at the Market. Prices fall when the shelves are full.
  • The Refinery turns ore into metal. The Smithy turns metal into tools. Work shifts there for wages.
  • Tools change your stats. A pickaxe gives more ore. A lantern lets you mine at night.

Shops and demand

  • The town wants bread, fuel and tools every day. Shops never quite keep up. The notice board in the plaza lists orders: deliver goods there for good money.
  • Craft at a furnace, an anvil or an oven (K). Cut timber with an axe. Harvest wheat in the fields.
  • Buy any business, or buy a town lot and build one. You set its prices, what it makes and the wage (P).
  • Stand for mayor at Town Hall. The mayor sets taxes, the bread price cap, note printing and town projects.
  • Goals (G) and weekly challenges give rewards. The Leaderboard (B) ranks you against the town each week.

Caves, quests and the law

  • Seven caves lie in the hills. Each level is deeper and more dangerous. Mine gem veins with a pickaxe. Dynamite opens cracked walls with hidden rooms.
  • A ! over a person means a quest. A ? means they wait for you. The main story starts with the mayor.
  • People have families and friends. If you hurt or kill a person, the sheriff hunts you and their kin want revenge. Kill twice and a posse rides out. Surrender to the sheriff to settle.
  • The Sheriff posts bounties. Some want the outlaw alive: beat them until they give up, press E to tie them and walk them in.
  • Own a plot to farm: till with a hoe, plant seeds, water with a can. Buy chickens, sheep, cows and pigs at the Ranch.

Money

  • Three kinds of money: bank notes (paper), silver coins and gold coins.
  • The Bank keeps silver and gold in its vault. A note keeps its full value while the vault holds enough metal.
  • Town Hall prints new notes to pay its bills. Too many notes and each note buys less: prices go up.
  • If the vault runs low, the Bank stops changing notes for coin.
  • The Mint makes coins from silver and gold ingots.
  • Borrow from the Bank against your land. Repay in 10 days or lose the land.
